Giovanna Fletcher: Motherhood gave me body confidence

ICONINSIDER — Giovanna Fletcher has credited motherhood with helping her overcome her body issues.
The 35-year-old author has three sons, Buzz, six, Buddy, four, and two-year-old Max with her husband, McFly musician Tom Fletcher, and after years of struggling to love her body Giovanni admits being able to marvel at what it was able to actually do allowed her to finally accept herself.
Addressing her hang-ups with her figure in an essay written in a book earlier this year, Giovanna said: “I’ve directed so much negativity towards it over the years – berated it for miscarrying, punished it for taking up too much space, hated it for not looking like I’ve been told it should look.
“But now I feel like a total t**. Not only did my body grow three amazingly wonderful boys and push them all out … it’s still flipping standing and enabling me to take on challenges.”
The ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!’ star had thought that the rigours of three pregnancies would make her hate her body even more but she has nothing but respect for mother nature.
She continued: “It’s funny, I thought I’d hate you more than ever now. Bigger, more stretched, droopier, saggier, more worn, achy and wobbly. I don’t. I value you now and only wish I had done so sooner. I know you’ll continue to change but I’ll do my best to embrace that.”
Now, Giovanna promises to love her body despite her “lumps and bumps” as she wants to look at her body through the eyes of her children.
She added: “When my children look at you they do not see your lumps and bumps, the dimpling of flesh, or the silvery indented lines … when they see you, they see me.
“We are one. I’m sorry that I’ve spent so much of my time disliking you. I failed to see that you were damaged, hurt, and in need of my love. I never realised your strength.”
