Ed Sheeran hasn’t been asked to perform at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding

ICONINSIDER — Ed Sheeran hasn’t been asked to perform at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding.
The 27-year-old star – who was awarded an MBE in December for services to music and charity by Prince Charles, Harry’s father, at a service at Buckingham Palace in London – admitted he’d love the chance to perform for the 33-year-old prince and the former ‘Suits’ actress at their ceremony at Windsor Chapel on May 19, when he received his title.
However, he has now admitted that while he would be honoured to land the gig, he believes he’s on tour in Ireland when the nuptials take place, and he’s not actually been invited to sing by the couple.
Addressing speculation he’d already landed the royal gig, the ‘Shape of You’ hitmaker told the Daily Express newspaper: “They said, ‘If you were asked, would you say yes?’ And I was like, ‘Of course’.”
“But journalists, like, everyone’s like, ‘Oh, he’s playing it!'”
“But no one’s looked at my tour dates. I’m in Ireland, I can’t do it, I haven’t been asked either.”
When asked if he’d like to sing for the couple at Windsor Chapel, Ed had said: “Yeah, why not.”
The record-breaking musician lost his grandfather five years ago, and when he picked up his MBE, he said his relative would have been “pretty proud” of his achievement, seeing as he was a huge fan of the royal family.
After the ceremony, he said: “My grandfather was a massive royalist.
“He had all the commemorative plates and stuff, and he died on this day four years ago, so it’s actually quite a nice full circle thing, I guess he’d be pretty proud.”
Meanwhile, the flame-haired singer/songwriter has his own wedding to plan, as he’s engaged to his long-time girlfriend Cherry Seaborn.
