John Challis ‘would be overwhelmed’ by heartfelt reaction to his death

ICONINSIDER — John Challis “would be overwhelmed” by the reaction to his death.
The former ‘Only Fools and Horses’ star has passed away at the age of 79, and a post on his official Twitter account has thanked fans and former co-stars for their heartfelt messages.
The post read: “It is with a heavy heart that I bring you such sad news.I know that many of you will have heard already that John has died,peacefully in his sleep after a long battle with cancer.He would be overwhelmed by all your wonderful messages,so thank you all.
“…. John will always be remembered for being Boycie and he leaves a great legacy of work which will continue to bring pleasure and smiles for many years to come.Please respect the privacy of our family and friends at this difficult time…
“….and be assured that there will be occasion to celebrate John’s life where everyone will be welcome to come along,hopefully at a theatre in London in the Spring next year. (sic)”
Challis – who played Boycie for more than two decades on the BBC sitcom – decided that he wanted his fans to donate money to a number of animal charities after his death.
The Twitter post continued: “Rather than sending flowers,any donations to John’s chosen animal charities would be much appreciated…..

Meanwhile, Charlotte Moore, the BBC’s chief content officer, has heaped praise on the comedy star.
She described Boycie as a character who was “loved by millions”.
Charlotte hailed Challis as “a wonderful actor who will forever be remembered for playing Boycie in ‘Only Fools and Horses’ – a character so well loved by millions”.
