Yebin Mok ‘counting her lucky stars’ Dancing on Ice injury wasn’t worse

ICONINSIDER — ‘Dancing on Ice’ pro skater Yebin Mok is “absolutely gutted” she will miss Graham Bell’s first performance following her horror injury, but is “counting [her] lucky stars” her bones or tendons weren’t slashed.
The 36-year-old figure skater suffered a “freak accident” this week when one of the former Olympic skier’s blades went into her shin during training, cutting through muscles and leaving her needing an operation, but she is relieved her nerves, bones, vessels or tendons weren’t wounded in the incident.
The pair were due to skate on Sunday’s (17.01.21) launch show, but Graham will now perform next week with Karina Manta stepping in to temporarily replace the recovering Yebin.
Yebin wrote on Instagram: “Absolutely gutted I won’t be able to skate on @dancingonice with Graham these couple of weeks.
Graham and I had a freak accident during our practice on Monday where his blade went into my shin.
Such unlucky timing but also counting my lucky stars as I cut through the muscles, and not nerves, bone, vessels or tendons! How I didn’t cut any of that they say is a miracle.
Just insanely bummed about not being able to showcase Graham’s amazing journey together after such long hard months of training, but I know he’s in great hands with @karinamanta to step in until I can get back on the ice, and I know he’s a fighter so he will do all he can to do his very best! ⭐️
Continue to vote for @skigraham and Karina! I’ll just be a nervous mom at the side of the rink with multiple devices to vote for them
I’ll do my very best to heal and recover as quickly as I can with our physio, Sharon who is the best of the best, and if anyone can get me on the ice, it’s her! And I’ll be ready to skate with Graham if the fate allows it, so keep voting for him and here’s to hoping for the best on this unexpected bumpy road. (sic)”
Yebin was rushed to Watford Hospital on Monday (11.01.21) following the accident, and she has thanked the NHS for taking good care of her.
Captioning a picture of herself on her hospital bed, she wrote: “#NHS appreciation post!!!
Just massive thank you the staff of Watford hospital!Doctors, surgeons, nurses, scrub nurses, operating team, anesthetists, urgent care, recovery care.
They were all so kind, so caring and looked after me so well on my overnight on Monday.
They truly are heroes!
So grateful for the care I received. And my leg is feeling so much better already thanks to them.
Had a glimpse of what @drtom_onice and all of our dr. Family members and friends who works in NHS might go through in their day. And I’m just thankful & proud. You guys are simply amazing
We citizens are lucky to have you. (sic)”
In a separate video, she also praised NHS workers for cleaning her leg out “really good”, and stitching it up during an operation.
Graham said in a statement: “I fell when we were training on Monday and Yebin, my pro dance partner, fell onto the back of my skate. She was cut quite badly on the shin and needed an operation to clean and stitch up the wound.
“She spent Monday night in Watford hospital and was released yesterday, luckily there was no nerve or tendon damage.”
Speaking about partnering with Karina, he added: “It’s going to be really tough learning our routines again with someone new, but Yebin will be on hand to coach us both. It is now a massive incentive for me to stay in the show so that I can get Yebin back on the ice.”
