Amy Dowden working to make Strictly return

ICONINSIDER — Amy Dowden is looking to return to ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ following her cancer battle.
The 33-year-old professional dancer was forced to drop out of the BBC programme after being diagnosed with stage three breast cancer in May 2023, though has since been given the all-clear from doctors and has teased fans she is working to get back on the show.
During an appearance on ‘BBC Breakfast’ where she was asked about returning to ‘Strictly’, she said: “That would be the dream, I’m working really hard and getting my body full back and rehab and physio.
“I’ve got a brilliant team so fingers crossed I’ll be back on your screens dancing later this year.”
Amy – who is married to Benjamin Jones – then recalled the shock of learning she had been diagnosed with cancer.
She recounted: “So I found a lump the day before I was going on my honeymoon, and obviously when I got back I went to my GP and yeah I was told unfortunately it is grade three cancer and I need a mastectomy, chemotherapy.
“I never thought for a million years at 32 that I’d be diagnosed with breast cancer, there I was living my life to the full on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’. I just got married, cancer doesn’t discriminate.”
After overcoming the disease in February, the professional performer made her return to the dancing on screen as part of a special segment for ITV’s ‘Lorraine’ where she was seen backstage at the West End musical ‘Mamma Mia!’
During the programme, she said: “I am just itching to get on that stage and do some dance moves.”
A TV insider also emphasised the dancer “never lost any of her sparkle” during or after her cancer battle.
The source told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “It was quite the moment when Amy got up to dance … and she obviously blew everyone away with just how good she is.
“It’s been such a long journey for her but she has never lost any of her sparkle.”
