Danny Dyer: EastEnders Christmas ep is tough to film

ICONINSIDER — Danny Dyer says EastEnders’ Christmas special is “difficult to shoot” because there is so much “pressure” on the episode.
The annual Christmas Day ep tends to see a number of big storylines reach breaking point, and Danny finds it strange having to work in September when there are Christmas decorations up.
Speaking about the filming process, he said: “It’s powerful stuff. It’s really powerful.
“It’s difficult to shoot. There’s a lot of pressure on it, and it is weird having all the decorations up. Our decorations went up, end of September.
“The trees on the Square are so confused … it all gets very confusing for them.
“I feel sorry for them trees. Because they don’t quite know what’s going on.”
Danny has dropped a few hints about this year’s Christmas Day (25.12.19) special, admitting there will be a “punch-up” as well as a “knees up”.
Speaking on ‘The One Show’, he added: “It’s the most important [episode] of the year, Christmas Day.
“It’s powerful. There’s always a knees-up, but there’s always going to be some sort of a punch-up going on.
“It’s brilliant this year. Every year is brilliant, but [this year] it’s a combination of many storylines coming together.”
Danny is to front new BBC game show ‘The Wall’, and he recently admitted the programme is a “nice” break from the “dark” side of ‘EastEnders’.
He said: “It’s been quite difficult actually because there’s a lot of anxiety around the idea of being a game show host because, what is that? What does it mean?
“I’ve enjoyed it though; I’ve enjoyed it more than I thought I would. So it’s been quite a leap from Walford because Walford/ ‘EastEnders’, it’s all quite serious and it can be quite dark.
“Whereas this is a light-hearted world the game show world, so it’s been quite nice actually to have a little break and do something different.”
